Today Zeke and Stazi's preschool had their annual "Generations Day," on which every child can bring a beloved grandparent, uncle, aunt, neighbor, or other special person to school. Zeke naturally chose his Uncle Dennis, who was an obvious choice because, well, he doesn't have to go to work on Friday morning, unlike the rest of Zeke's grandparents, uncles, and aunts.

Anyway, I have the Martian Death Flu right now, so out of courtesy to the other parents and kids, I didn't haul my contagious self to the classroom for the first hour and a quarter, during which the kids showed off their "works" and generally towed their special people around the classroom, but I did make it to the gym for the final presentation. First the elementary kids did a song (very nicely orchestrated, I must say), and then all the preschoolers stood up and sang/yelled "This Little Light of Mine" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" in unison, complete with coordinating hand movements.

Zeke did not actually participate in the sing-along, instead choosing to first alarmedly cover his ears with his hands when the singing started, and then frantically shush his classmates. Then he caught my eye, and beamed at me, and looked shy for the rest of the song. It was extremely adorable.

Afterward he announced that his favorite part of the performance was when the bigger kids played their kazoos because "they make a funny sound and it makes you laugh." He then informed me that I should give him a kazoo someday, and maybe we could tell everyone in the city that they should give him a kazoo.

I told him I'll get right on that.
