Stazi's new favorite thing is dumping out her sippy cup all over her lap while she's riding in her carseat. Occasionally she's got juice in there, so the entire carseat became completely soaked in wet, sticky juice. When I noticed that it was actually starting to smell fermented, I decided, yeah, it's time to launder the seat padding.
Ha. Ha, ha, ha. Easier said than done. It took me half an hour of screwing around with the seat myself, 45 minutes of searching the Internet, and then another 20 minutes of using a screwdriver to get that damn thing off. Do car seat manufacturers not understand that children spill things? And that parents might want to clean these spills up? Without having to get out the toolbox and spend most of an afternoon doing it?
Anyway, after unclipping the cover, unthreading the straps, unscrewing the back of the carseat, and then unthreading the straps some more, I finally got the thing off and into the washing machine. Also vacuumed out the entire car, so it's now remarkably free of food residue, calcified chicken McNuggets, and other kid-related detritus. I expect it to stay that way for at least half an hour. Possibly 45 minutes. Anyone want to place a bet?

carseats suck!
i cleaned my niece's once then could never get it back on correctly. i also borrowed my mom's mini-van once when i was moving and had to remove the middle seat. then i couldn't get it back in because the grooves to hook it back into were full of french fries and stomped crayons!
