Is only 11 AM and am already exhausted. Does someone else want to come parent my children for a day? Just a day. While I recharge my batteries, so to speak.
I keep running tallies in my head of "good mommy/bad mommy" moments. Do other people do this? I try to keep the good mommy side longer than the bad mommy side, and on days when this is accomplished, I consider myself a success.
Today's running total:
Bad mommy: Screamed at Stazi while making breakfast after 15 minutes of nonstop shrieking finally made me lose my shit.
Good mommy: Made breakfast for family. Soothed Stazi with scrambled eggs after screaming incident referred to earlier.
Bad mommy: Would not let Zeke play imaginative and probably creativity-building game with couch cushions on grounds that I am sick and tired of picking them up off the floor.
Good mommy: Let Zeke show Daddy his seed game in which he covers himself with a couch cushion and says "I'm a baby seed!" and then flings the cushion off and says "I am a beautiful plant!" (dependent on immediate replacement of couch cushion on couch)
Bad mommy: Let children watch entirely too much TV this morning.
Good mommy: At least it was PBS. OK, this doesn't actually count as a good mommy moment, as it is just a sad and pathetic justification for the previous bad mommy item.
Good mommy: Let Zeke go outside and help water the plants. Big fun.
Good mommy: Finally figured out that Stazi's fussiness was because she is THIRSTY (duh! you would think I could figure these things out after three whole years of parenting) and gave her a big glass of soy milk, which made her extremely happy.
Bad mommy: Dressed kids probably inappropriately for the weather on grounds that it is May 4 and sunny and I don't care if it's only 45 degrees outside, goddammit, we're all wearing short sleeves.
Good mommy: Did put Zeke into long pants. Remembered to pack jacket for him to take to preschool.
So far today I think it's a draw.
