So, Gus had his one-week checkup at the doctor's office today. I will confess that I am primarily doing this entry to record his vital stats in case I ever get organized enough to actually do a baby book for any of my children.

Anyway, we were about half an hour late for the appointment because preschool dropoff for Zeke and Stazi took longer than anticipated, but we called ahead to let them know, and they were very cool about it. They do newborn appointments first thing in the morning to avoid germ exposure, and even though we showed up half an hour late, they ushered us into a room immediately to get us out of the waiting area. So that was good.

Gus now weighs 8 lb 7.5 oz, which is exactly half an ounce less than his birth weight. This is a good thing and means he has been eating well. He looks slightly jaundiced, but not enough to make the doctor worry or feel that we need to do a bilirubin test, so that's good too. Also, they had his height at 21.5 inches, vs. the 21 inches he was measured at the hospital. Either way he's a tall kid. The pediatrician noted that he is pretty lean-looking, which is unusual for an eight and a half pound baby, because typically they look "pretty beefy" but this is due to his height. He's 90th percentile for height and 75th for weight.

We are settling in okay here. Gus is sleeping 3-4 hour stretches at night, which is nice, although he's having some trouble getting back to sleep sometimes after he wakes up for a nursing session. (This is my euphemistic way of saying he howls like a banshee and refuses to latch on even though my breast is RIGHT THERE, HELLO. But anyway.) Tomorrow is Keith's first day back to work, so I'll be doing preschool dropoff and pickup, which should be interesting. I'll put Gus in the wrap sling to keep him away from inquisitive preschooler hands and fingers and hopefully minimize germ exposure. He does well in the car so far. I think I might take him to the library while Zeke and Stazi are at school.

Cripes, it's weird, having three kids.
