Yesterday I presented Keith with his early surprise Christmas gift, which was tickets for the two of us to a local production of two stories from David Sedaris' Holidays on Ice. They did "Santaland Diaries" (hilarious) and the holiday newsletter story (had funny moments, but was a lot darker and considerably less hilarious than the first act, and was quite a bit changed from the original Sedaris story, if I am remembering correctly). At any rate, the gift was a hit. I even arranged babysitting on the sly with my sister and brother-in-law. And it was the first time we'd been to a play in a few years, so overall a very successful evening.
Then tonight we hosted a couple of friends who brought their year-and-a-half old twins to play with the kids while we adults hung out and socialized (with each other as well as with the kids). We had Keith's killer black bean soup and tacos. Er, I mean, we had tacos in addition to bean soup, not that we had soup with tacos in it. You know what I mean. All was pronounced eminently satisfactory, and the kids had a great time. More or less.
In other news, the mouse that was formerly living the high life out in the garage with the birdseed has now encamped behind our living room couch and must be rousted out by some means or another. We have, however, seen no more signs of the wasps that kept flying into our family room on warm days throughout the fall and early winter, so maybe they've left for more hospitable climes. I don't know. Sometimes it's like Wild Animal Kingdom around here, I tell you what.
