The Pops concert went well last night. The tickets turned out to be a non-issue, and Zeke was superbly well-behaved throughout the entire show. He didn't even complain when the line to the bathroom at intermission took so long to navigate that we didn't have time to stop at the drinking fountain on the way back to our seats. (Of course, it helped that I let him have my little can of orange juice that I keep in my pocket in case of low blood sugar.)
I asked him afterward what his favorite parts of the show were. He said that he liked when Mommy shared her orange juice with him, and he liked when Santa Claus showed up, and he liked when the trumpet sounded like a horse. (Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride".) He informed Keith that he thinks that a horse swallowed a trumpet.
The conductor and the Santa Claus do a little bit of business every year in which Santa says he has one wish for Christmas, and it is to conduct the orchestra, and the conductor lets him conduct the very last number, which usually is "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Zeke leaned over and whispered into my ear, "I didn't know that Santa had always wanted to be a conductor!"
We have no plans to take the kids to the mall Santa, but if we did, I strongly suspect that Zeke would ask the poor guy what it was like to conduct the symphony orchestra.
