Zeke story. Today the kids were playing happily downstairs doing something or other, and I heard a minor fight break out, and then it sounded like it was about to turn into a major fight. (After awhile, you develop a sixth sense about these things. Some arguments die away on their own, and some will turn into a nuclear holocaust complete with hair-pulling and toy-throwing if someone parental does not intervene ASAP.) So I went to investigate what the problem was.

I walked into the kitchen and discovered both kids having a tug of war over the letter "B" from our fridge magnet set. "E T" was still stuck to the fridge. Wailing, Zeke cried, "Mommy! I made the word "bet" but Stazi stole the "B" and now it's just "et"!

I did not laugh. I really didn't. I swear I didn't. We let Stazi abscond with the coveted letter "B" and I helped Zeke make "set," and then "jet," and then "let." The day was saved.

Stazi story. Earlier today I decided to vacuum the upstairs of our house, because you know, you should really do that once every several months or so. I enlisted the help of the kids to clear toys and clothes and other debris from the hallways, and then sent each of them to their rooms to start picking junk up off the floor in there while I vacuumed the hall.

When I went to check Stazi's room, she was long gone, having vacated the premises to go find more entertainment elsewhere, but her handiwork was still impressive: Her fuzzy pink house slippers were placed carefully on the pillow of her bed, Hello Kitty and Mimi were shoved into the pink laundry basket at the foot of her bed, with all of her costume jewelry draped over their heads, and all of the loose books were stacked in a neat pile directly in the center of the floor.

Not bad for a two-and-a-half-year-old, I guess.

Pregnancy news. Nothing much to report. I'm having pretty much zero symptoms this time around, although I'm never really that symptomatic early on. (It is still surprising to me that I can refer to pregnancy with terms like "never," implying that I have done it now not just once, but multiple times.) No nausea, no heartburn, nada. I'm a little moodier than usual but even that isn't horrible, although it got kind of bad the first week or so.

I do seem to have grown out of my regular pants already, which was surprising in a bad way. I mean, I know they say that you start showing earlier and earlier with each baby, but cripes, I had barely seen the double line on the pregnancy test before I was starting to feel squashed and uncomfortable in my regular jeans. I went and got a couple of pairs of these "first and second trimester" maternity pants from Old Navy, and they seem to be working okay for now. I am really not ready to be in maternity clothing already. I keep hoping that I will manage to lose some weight, since it is only the first trimester and I am sticking carefully to my diet and hitting the exercise bike pretty hard. So far, no dice, though.

ZEKE (Zeke wandered in and wanted to type his name, so there it is.)

Sounds like Zeke is ready for dad to teach him about "The Adventures of Letterman!"

Faster than a rolling "o",
Stronger than silent "e" ,
Able to leap a capitol "T" in a single bound,
Its a word...
Its a plan...
Its Letterman!

- Guest starring Stazi as the evil Spellbinder. ;^)

You know, I thought that had to be John before I scrolled down far enough to see his name... I loved the letter story. We have friends who are expecting their second, and I could see this very scene being repeated in their house!
