9/11/2006
My grandma told me once about what it was like on the day President Kennedy was assassinated. She said that she just sat and watched the television all day, couldn't do anything else at all, just watched and watched. She said that you just wanted to do something, anything, but there was nothing to do.
Someday our children will ask us about what it was like on 9/11, and we will tell them about how we watched the television all day, all week, couldn't do anything else at all, just watched and watched. We'll tell them about how we donated blood even though there was nobody to give the blood to. We'll tell them about how we sent money to New York, and wept, and how we desperately, so desperately, wanted to do something, but there was nothing to do.
Except remember. Remember, and pray, and be Americans, and trust that we will weather this storm, like all the others through our long, glorious, and sometimes-sordid history.
Be well, my friends.
