Still no word from the sellers about whether or not they can extend contract for us.

I am surprisingly calm about this. What I'm worried about most at this point is getting through the loan approval process. Whether or not the sellers of this particular house continue the contract... well, our philosophy all along has been that there is no one perfect house for us, but rather lots of houses that will meet our needs and be good homes. This is one of them, but if the deal falls through we'll find another one. So I am not emotionally attached to this house as such. I am dreading the prospect of having to go through the entire viewing/offering/negotiating process again if the deal does fall through, but I'm not worrying about it too much at this point. Besides, I doubt the deal is going to fall through. I think the sellers really want to sell, and cancelling on our deal sure isn't going to sell their home any quicker.

So in the meantime I'm waiting for the phone to ring. Again.

In other news (what? there's other news? yes, believe it or not, only 75-80% of my life has been subsumed by the house-buying process, leaving the other 20-25% for me to deal with as usual, and yes, currently I am viewing everything as a mathematical equation; don't give me crap about it or I'll square your root), the arrival of October means that we are in full preparation for Halloween and Thanksgiving, two of my favorite holidays. The kids' Halloween costumes are coming along in fits and starts. Stazi's is basically finished except that I need to close the back, but Zeke's is still in the pattern layout stage. I keep telling myself that it's okay because there are still three weeks to Halloween, but really I do need to get cracking.

We're also plotting out our Thanksgiving strategy. I suspect that we will be in charge of some of the main dishes and important pies this year (important pies being, of course, pumpkin and lemon meringue, especially pumpkin) so we're starting to plan. Keith and I usually have to put the brakes on our standard cooking strategy when it's Thanksgiving, because while it's fun and interesting and often extremely tasty to experiment with different dishes at home for ourselves and the kids, the rest of the family does not, repeat not, want us f'ing with the stuffing recipe.

Anyway, we have some time, but as far as I'm concerned it's really never too early to start thinking about Thanksgiving dinner.

Now if you don't mind, I have to get back to waiting for the phone to ring.

YOOHOO! Welcome to the agonizing experience of impending homeownership! I'm sure whatever home you purchase (if it's not this lovely, lovely (read jealous) house, will not have the many dreadful issues to deal with our home has had. That said, remember the inspectors don't catch everything. Ours didn't catch that there were three layers of roofing on our roof (illegal everywhere) and the fact there was a big pocket of air under the slab (which collapsed as we remedied other structural flaws the inspector missed as well). Please be very careful, and if there's anyone in your family with knowledge of construction of any sort, have them look at it, too. The best of luck!! It looks like there's room for company!
